Explore Korea’s Rich History at the National Museum of Korea

Discover Korea’s History at the National Museum of Korea 🇰🇷

If you're visiting Seoul and want to experience the rich history and culture of Korea in one place, the National Museum of Korea is a must-visit. It’s not only the largest museum in Korea but also one of the most significant cultural institutions in Asia.

1. Location

The National Museum of Korea is located in Yongsan District, right next to Yongsan Family Park and Ichon Hangang Park. The museum is surrounded by beautiful nature, making it a perfect place to enjoy both art and a relaxing walk outdoors.

Address: 137 Seobinggo-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea

2. Opening Hours

The museum offers generous opening hours, and admission is free for the permanent exhibitions.

  • Weekdays (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri): 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

  • Wednesday & Saturday: 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM (extended hours)

  • Sunday & Holidays: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM

  • Closed on Mondays if it falls on a public holiday

Please note that special exhibitions may require a separate ticket and have different operating hours.

3. How to Get There by Public Transport

Getting to the museum is easy and convenient by Seoul’s subway system.

  • Subway Line 4 / Jungang Line: Get off at Ichon Station (이촌역), Exit 2.
From the exit, it's about a 5-minute walk to the museum entrance.

There are also several bus routes that stop near the museum, including Green Bus 0017 and Blue Bus 400. Taxis are also easily available in the area.

4. Why You Should Visit

Whether you’re a history lover or just looking for a peaceful cultural spot in the city, the National Museum of Korea has something for everyone.

  • Vast and diverse collections: Explore everything from prehistoric artefacts to traditional Korean art, Buddhist sculptures, ceramics, and more.

  • Modern architecture + serene surroundings: The museum building is beautifully designed, and its surroundings offer a quiet retreat from the busy city.

  • Free entry: Unlike many other national museums, this one doesn’t require a ticket for the main exhibits.

  • Family-friendly: There’s also a Children’s Museum and plenty of open space, making it ideal for visitors of all ages.

Whether it’s your first visit to Korea or you’ve been here before, the National Museum of Korea is a place that offers both cultural depth and visual delight.

Tip: After exploring the museum, take a walk around Yongsan Family Park or enjoy a sunset by the Han River at Ichon Hangang Park—both are within walking distance!

Welcome to My Journey | Why I Started This Blog

Hi everyone, and welcome to my new travel blog!

I’m Chany, a Korean travel lover who has been blogging on Naver under the nickname 챠니져니. For years, I’ve shared my daily adventures, reviews of cafés, stays, and cultural experiences in Korea — and now I’m so excited to bring those stories to you in English.

Why start this blog?

Because I’ve met so many travelers who want to explore Korea beyond the tourist spots — the hidden streets, local food, real experiences. I want to share those with you.

What you can expect here:
- Translated and reimagined posts from my Korean blog
- Travel tips for visiting Korea like a local
- Cultural notes and stories behind the places I go
- Lots of photos from my Instagram @chany_journey

Whether you’re planning a trip or just curious about life in Korea, I hope my posts will inspire you to explore more deeply and travel more meaningfully.

Thanks for joining me on this journey. See you in the next post!

With gratitude,
Chany
